ABOUT DEREK
Derek Jech was born and raised in Northwest Arkansas and now resides in Manhattan.
​
Jech is a musical, mood-driven abstract artist who uses music as the primary catalyst for his creative process. Each piece begins with the selection of a single song, played on repeat from the start of the work through its completion. The rhythm, emotion, and repetition of the music guide the piece, and the song itself becomes the title of the finished work.
​
Deeply inspired by the arts, Derek draws creative energy from Broadway, live performance, music, and contemporary culture—experiences that shape both the emotion and movement found within his paintings. He began painting in 2008 and continues to explore the intersection of sound, feeling, and visual expression.
​
In 2019, he launched D. Jech Designs, a creative shop featuring collectible wearable art inspired by cultural and political figures, blending design, commentary, and personal expression.
